
Selena Gomez has opened up about the brutal impact comments about her fluctuating weight have had on her, revealing how 'everyone' on social media 'had something to say' about it.
During an appearance on the latest episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, the 32-year-old said ignoring comments about her appearance is easier said than done.
Gomez has been candid about her body confidence battles for several years now, as part of conversations regarding her ill health.

The actress was diagnosed with lupus in 2013, and in 2017, she announced a break from the entertainment industry after undergoing a kidney transplant.
Last year, she revealed a diagnosis of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and said it was unlikely to be able to carry her own children as a result.

"It depends on even the month, to be honest," she explained in a 2019 interview with Giving Back Generation about how her health and comments about her appearance.

"So, for me I really noticed when people started attacking me for that. That got to me big time. That really messed me up for a bit."
Speaking on this week's podcast, which she appeared in alongside fiancé Benny Blanco, Gomez admitted to regularly checking the comments left on her social media uploads.
“From my perspective, it’s pretty wild, and I think this isn’t news to anybody, that obviously women have a lot more intense feelings from their appearance to what they’re wearing to everything," she said.
“When I get prepared for an event, 90 percent of the time I’m just like, ‘I just hope I can take the picture and sit down’,” she added.

"It’s the character that gets judged, it’s the way I’m not white enough, I’m not Mexican enough."
She continued: "There’s just so many different things that come up in my face that I can’t help but see, but I fall victim to looking at things, and it really doesn’t add to your life, but it’s just so difficult. From the choices of people you date… it’s like nobody cares about those kind of things with men."
The 'Call Me When You Break Up' singer said that recently, 'everyone' on social media 'had something to say' about her weight.

"Oh yeah, my weight’s a big one too," she said. "It’s really making me sad and — not even sad cause, I’m not a victim…I just think it’s made me a tad bitter, and I feel really guilty for saying that, but it’s true."
Gomez has previously called out the unfair and cruel criticism she receives online.
In November, she was forced to defend her appearance whilst attending the American French Film Festival in LA - where she promoted her latest project, the Oscar-winning film Emilia Pérez.

After she posed with her hands placed low down in front of her stomach while wearing a black gown, a handful of critics thought the gesture insinuated she was hiding her body in some way.
"This makes me sick," Gomez hit back at the speculation on TikTok. "I have SEBO in my small intestine. It flares up."
The Rare Beauty founder continued at the time: "I don't care that I don't look like a stick figure. I don't have that body. End of story. No I am NOT a victim. I'm just human."
