Selena Gomez has just released her latest single with her fiancé Benny Blanco and it's sparked a pretty heated discussion online.
Following the song's release, the 32-year-old 'Calm Down' hit-maker took to Instagram to share with her 421 million followers a snap of her accompanying merch.
Some online critics, however, have been left far from happy with the reveal, as they've rushed in to call out the 'insufferable' message behind one of Selena's merch tops and the general concept of the single as a whole.

The pale pink vest top in question had the words 'ALL THE GIRLS AT THIS PARTY ARE YOUNGER + HOTTER THAN ME' spelled out in bedazzled diamantés, a direct reference to Selena's song titled 'Younger and Hotter Than Me'.
Between the track's lyrics and the shirt, it's clear fans and critics alike had some very opposing views online.
A fair few were left seriously miffed by the concept, with some going as far as to claim Selena's behaviour was giving major 'pick me' vibes.

"I'm sorry I love her but this narrative she's trying to put out younger hotter than me and all that it's just a little pick me imo... like girl you're stunning and everyone knows that so STOP," pleaded one X user.
A second declared: "The amount of women this woman has sent her bully fans after just for her to act like a victim and a pick me is so insufferable."
"Pick me final boss," branded a third, while a fourth echoed: "She's still regarded as beautiful and gets praised for such. But the notion that she's not like the younger and hotter girls [...] seems like bait to provoke her fans who are already running rampant without needing a reason. Besides that, I see the vision."

That same person also chimed in: "It’s interesting that Selena pretends like she wasn’t the standard of beauty at one point but nowadays, she rocks this pick-me mentality that provokes fans to hate on the 'younger + hotter' girls to validate Selena."
Others, however, had a different view, with a fifth X user hitting back: "I disagree w this. She’s just ageing and dealing with the ramifications of Hollywood rejecting her while also profiting off of it and normalising it. It’s refreshing instead of the fake confidence we are sold."
"I think it’s more so to talk about how Hollywood puts younger people in a pedestal," theorised a sixth, while a seventh slammed: "She's not asking anyone to validate her or sh*t on anyone else. Y'all are annoying as hell."

An eighth pointed out: "Every singer has done the same exact thing. Confessed their insecurities even though they’re beautiful."
"Its enlightening for women to know its okay to feel insecure even when they're 'pretty'," defended another, and a final fan urged: "They’re valid and real feelings. Stop trying to hate."
