Sophie Turner is set to return to our screens this weekend as part of a dramatised take on a 'remarkable' true story, stepping into the shoes of notorious jewel thief John Hannigan.
Turner, 28, is best known for playing Sansa Stark in HBO drama Game of Thrones, but now she's exchanging Westeros for 1980s London for ITV's six-part series Joan.
She portrays the titular real-life Joan ‘The Godmother’ Hannington - a mother, a housewife and eventually a jewel thief operating at the heart of Britain's criminal underworld.

A synopsis from ITV explains: “Delving deeper into the criminal underworld, Joan meets Boisie, an enigmatic antiques dealer whose allure introduces her to new levels of danger and passion.”
As the series gets ready to air on Sunday 29 September at 9pm, there have been reports of Turner and her estranged husband Joe Jonas finally completing their year-long divorce.
Filming kicked off back in May 2023, with the couple announcing their separation just months later in September that year.

Turner has now admitted that she became ‘swept away’ by emotion as she filmed the series, as she stated in a press conference about the show that she had no problem turning on the waterworks.
“I’m a Pisces, I’m emotional,” Turner confessed in a press conference for Joan.
Joan, described as a devoted young mother, was desperate to escape a disastrous relationship and when her partner Gary goes on the run, she grabs the chance to start a new life with her six-year-old daughter, Kelly.
Every heist and stolen diamond is driven by her singular purpose: to create a secure future for her daughter.

In Turner's own divorce, proceedings were reportedly become delayed by intense conflict between the couple in regards to the custody agreements for their children, daughters Willa, four and Delphine, two.
It was only earlier this month, one year on, that divorce was finalised, with a Florida judge declaring the marriage 'irretrievably broken' and approving a confidential agreement between the pair.
On her new role as mother Joan, Sophie said "She is so funny but she has gone through so much trauma and is so ambitious. There really is so much to her - mother, lover, liar, thief. It’s just remarkable that it’s all a true story.”

“And I’m a mother, so anything to do with children and it just flows out. I think sometimes when you are doing a show like this and there’s diamonds and glamour, you get swept away by it all.”
“You have to remember that this is to provide a solid and stable life for her daughter so she can get her back. And it’s really a heartbreaking story.”
Frank Dillane, who will be working alongside Turner as a partner in crime, he said, “Sophie is so easy to love. I found it just such a pleasure.”
