Weezer bassist Scott Shriner's wife, Jillian Lauren-Shriner, has been shot by police after 'refusing' to drop a weapon in a 'chaotic' hit and run chase which took place earlier this week on Monday (7 April).
The incident took place place around 3.25pm local time when California Highway Patrol (CHP) called for backup while investigating a three-car hit-and-run in what would eventually lead to Shriner getting shot in the shoulder by a police officer after reportedly refusing to surrender her weapon.
The Los Angeles Police Department explained that 'CHP requested a backup locating three misdemeanour hit-and-run suspects who fled into a residential neighbourhood near the 134 Freeway and Figueroa Street'.

"As the officers were in the rear yard of that residence, they observed a female, later identified as 51-year-old Jillian Shriner, in the yard of a neighbouring residence armed with a handgun," the officials continued.
According to the police, the officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun 'numerous times' but she 'refused'.
"Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred," the LAPD stated.
It was at this point that Shriner was 'struck by gunfire and fled into her residence'.

No officers or other community members were injured during this incident.
The LAPD confirmed that it was later determined that Shriner was uninvolved in the hit-and-run and lived at the residence where she was observed and was later 'booked for attempted murder'.
"One of the male suspects connected with the hit-and-run was detained by CHP, cited, and released. The other two suspects were not located," the police press release concludes, adding that a 9mm handgun was recovered from Shriner's residence.
Weezer bassist Scott, who tied the knot with his wife back in 2005, recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of his band's Blue Album.
The shooting comes just days ahead of Weezer's Coachella festival performance which is set to take place this weekend on Saturday (12 April).
