Meaning behind Kate Middleton’s Wimbledon outfit during rare public appearance

Meaning behind Kate Middleton’s Wimbledon outfit during rare public appearance

The Princess of Wales, 42, was last seen at Trooping the Colour before her Wimbledon appearance

The Princess of Wales made a rare public appearance at the Wimbledon finals amidst her ongoing cancer treatment yesterday (14 July).

Kate Middleton, 42, attended the sporting event alongside her nine-year-old daughter, Charlotte, and her younger sister, Pippa, 40.

She dressed in purple for the occasion, while Pippa wore a pink floral dress with Charlotte donning a navy polka dot frock.

This was Kate's first public appearance in almost a month as she was last seen at Trooping the Colour alongside her husband, Prince William.

During the event, Kate and Charlotte took their seats in the front row of the Royal Box at Centre Court where they were greeted with a standing ovation.

Kate, the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, payed tribute to her role with her outfit choice - opting for a regal colour on the day.

After taking over the patronage from Queen Elizabeth back in 2016, the Princess has regularly accessorised her Wimbledon outfits with a pin representing her role.

The bow tie pin she wore yesterday featured the club's official dark green and purple colours.

She has also seemingly followed suit with the late Queen in wearing bright colours so she could be easily spotted in the crowds.

She was wearing a £1,295 purple bespoke 'Cecilia' dress in the colour 'lilac' from London fashion designer, Safiyaa, a brand she previously wore at the Royal Variety Performance back in November of last year.

The statement garment, made from a heavy crepe fabric, features short sleeves with subtle puff detailing on the shoulders complete with an A-line skirt and ruched bodice.

And it's clear Kate's outfit wasn't the only thing fans were interested in, as many others were dying to work out what Kate said to Charlotte during the standing ovation, with one expert weighing in to share what they reckon she said.

Lip-reader, Jeremy Freeman, has analysed footage from the moment the two princesses arrived.

Speaking to The Sun, he theorised that Kate asked Charlotte to 'come over here' as they got to their seats.

Kate then took a moment to thank the woman, Deborah Jevans, who had accompanied them and proceeded to wave to the crowd, who were all standing up applauding her entrance to the court.

According to the lip reader, she then said 'Hi' to the crowd and later turned to the lady next to her, adding 'so sweet'.

Tyla previously contacted Kensington Palace for comment.
