The show balances two ambitious formats - a stereotypical sitcom complete with canned laughter when Allison is at home with Kevin, and a single camera set-up with muted tones when she's alone and attempting to forge her own path.
Allison's world gets split into two when she leaves the room where she's at the end of all of Kevin's jokes, and serves as nothing more than a trophy wife who gives him and his friends beers.
Back in the kitchen, she breaks Kevin's glass mug, then fantasises about stabbing her husband in the neck with it.

James Poniewozik wrote for The New York Times: "[Kevin Can F*** Himself] is like that bottle; it will make us see the horror in what we've been trained to see as harmless, even if it has to smack us upside the head. It may be as subtle as a blow to the skull, but it's an inventive meta-critique of TV."
Viewers all over social media have lauded the brilliant show.
One person wrote on X: "Netflix added Kevin Can F Himself, which means time for a re-watch. This show was ahead of its time. The way they use lighting and comedy to portray an abusive marriage is fucking brilliant.
