Ex-Mormon reveals real reason they ‘look the same’ as scandalous new Mormon wives show has viewers in disbelief

Alyssa Grenfell explained why Mormons often look alike

A former Mormon has revealed why people often think that those in the community 'look the same' as a new show delving into the lives of several 'Mormon wives' launches on Hulu.

Earlier this month, an eight-episode show, titled The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, was released exploring how a handful of Mormon influencers dealt with the fallout of a ‘swinging’ scandal a few years ago.

The series focuses on a group of Mormon women, including Taylor Frankie Paul, who was previously married to her husband Tate Paul and lived with in Draper, Utah.

Two years ago, she admitted that she and Tate would be divorcing after claiming she and her spouse had been engaging in ‘soft swinging’.

It’s alleged that Taylor and Tate, as well as some other Salt Lake City-based parents, had once been romantically intimate with one another.

“No one is innocent, everyone has hooked up with everyone,” Taylor claimed during a TikTok live.

Following the show airing, some viewers have been taking to social media to ask the same question.

One person wrote: "I need the cast of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives to wear name tags please, these women all look the same."

Another said: "People saying all Utah women look the same & i genuinely didn’t understand until i started watching the secret lives of mormon wives. i genuinely cannot tell the difference between a majority of these women."

While a third added: "I’m watching secret lives of Mormon wives and I can’t tell these woman apart they all look the same but I’m enjoying."

One former Mormon has previously spoken about why so many members of the church look so alike.

Alyssa Grenfell left the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah back in 2017.

She is now documenting her time as a Mormon online, delving into the rules she had to follow and what her day-to-day life looked like.

She explained that people often think Mormons look alike because the gene pool is actually pretty small.

Over on her YouTube, she explained further: "Have you ever wondered why some people 'look Mormon'? Mormons really only marry other Mormons.

“You can’t marry in a Mormon temple unless it’s two Mormons getting married, this in large part has made it so that the gene pool is actually very small — especially in a place like Utah, where Mormons fled and went to Utah to be able to practice polygamy in peace.

"Those Mormons were only making babies with other Mormons for a very long time, and the only opportunity to make the gene pool a little larger is to convert people."

She also said that it could also be because the Mormon culture is very friendly.

"I think another reason for this is the Mormon vibe which is often super, hyper friendly, almost too friendly," she added.

“Mormons are taught to proselytize and share their religion... I think that Mormon culture is very copycat.”
