We nearly missed out on an iconic line from Elf had one person not fought for it to stay.
If you’re wondering which line is being referenced, let’s take a trip down memory lane through the 2003 flick’s plot and figure it out.
Of course, the film, which was blessed with a hilariously funny cast and story, was also boosted by its extras.

The comedy sees Will Ferrell play a loveable human-amongst-elves named Buddy.
Raised at the North Pole, poor Buddy discovers that he's not actually an elf at all and decides to travel to New York in search of his biological father.
Once found, he then goes on an adventure with Jovie (Zooey Deschanel) and manages to have the happy ending he always wanted.

During the movie, there were a lot of minor characters what fans grew to love.
While the film intentionally rattled New Yorkers with unscripted lines in the street, others on screen went on to steal the show.
Now, extras typically say very little, as they’re more like characters for the main cast to work beside and create jokes from, but this extra was different.

However, his iconic interaction with Ferrell nearly didn’t happen.
Remember the mail office scene?
Actor Mark Acheson, credited as Mailroom Guy, shared that his hilarious ‘improvised’ scene was nearly cut from the film, but one person made sure it stayed.
Acheson, now 67, shared with People that he was only supposed to have one line in the scene, which was ‘work release’.

If you can’t recall what I’m talking about, it’s when Buddy is sent to the mail room at his father’s workplace to complete tasks, but he ends up paired with Acheson and takes a very hearty gulp of alcohol from the character’s flask, mistaking it for syrup.
That’s when the pair get drunk and improvise an entire scene of funny ramblings about life.
The actor shared that that day was ‘the weirdest day I could possibly imagine.’

He shared that it only happened after he called his agent who said to him: “Listen, they would like you to come and do one line with Will Ferrell. Would you like to do it?”
Of course, he said yes, and even though he was only supposed to say two words and leave, director Jon Favreau, wanted him to take part in some improv with Ferrell.
That then created the scene when Acheson's character tells Buddy that he's 26 years old and has ‘got nothing to show for it’ as they lie in mail carts.
Buddy then says: "You're young, you're so young.”
The pair then crack up and so, a meme was born.
According to Acheson: “The producers wanted to axe the whole scene because of that. I think, ‘Who is gonna believe this guy is 26?’ I mean, seriously. I believe I was 46 at the time and an older, 46 even at that. Because I never looked young in my life.”
Favreau, however, wanted it to stay and ‘fought for it’.
The actor continued: “He said that the joke, that's the funny part, right?
"He kept me in but they, they didn't want me, but he did and thank God for me because it changed my career quite a bit."
Let’s all collectively thank Favreau for his stance on the scene.
