Sinister theory about The Holiday completely changes the entire film

Sinister theory about The Holiday completely changes the entire film

You'll never watch Jude Law the same way again

Imagine the most perfect Christmas movie and suddenly it’s nothing like you remembered it - and it’s now a thriller.

Well, buckle up because once I explain this theory, you’ll never be able to look at a quaint and snowy English town the same way again.

If you’ve been preparing to binge-watch as many Christmas movies as you can before it’s time to deck the halls and drink Baileys, then you've obviously got The Holiday on your list to repeat it.

This rom-com hit became is a Christmas classic and has been a tradition to watch since it was released in cinemas in 2006.

It’s got it all, a huge-name Hollywood cast and two romances that could melt the snow.

The cast includes Cameron Diaz, who plays an anti-relationship workaholic called Amanda from the US, and then Kate Winslet, who is Iris, a mild-mannered society columnist for the Daily Telegraph in London who is in love with her boss.

Because they can’t find love, they decided to swap homes, and Amanda travels over the pond to live in Iris' English cottage in Surrey while Iris moves into Amanda's massive mansion in California .

That’s when the story gets swoony.

Amanda almost immediately falls for for Iris' widowed older brother, Graham (played by Jude Law), and Iris finds an unlikely romance with a hilarious film composer called Miles (Jack Black).

It’s the perfect festive film!

Tear-jerkingly romantic? Check. Knee-slappingly comedic? You betcha!

Apparently, however, fans of this festive favourite have been watching this movie all wrong, and according to a group of movie lovers, there's actually a hidden murder plot hidden between the romantic jogs through the snow and dinner dates.

In fact, this wild theory claims that English brother and sister duo Iris (Winslet) and Graham (Law) are themselves murderers, planning to kill off wealthy movie trailer producer Amanda and bag all of her riches.

The theory that was posted on Reddit last year reads: "Kate Winslet and Jude Law are laying a trap where he will seduce Cameron Diaz, marry her, kill her, and inherit her fortune."

The social media user then goes into eyebrow-raising detail about how exactly the siblings would go about arranging their wicked plan.

They allege that the house swap is arranged in order to determine whether or not Amanda is worth killing, before Graham goes on to 'accidentally' arrange the meeting with her at his sister's Iris' cottage.

"Now he and his sister have used the house swap scheme to get Cameron Diaz into their town while Kate Winslet can investigate and make sure Cameron has enough money and property (and no family/entanglements) to be worth the effort of seducing her and then disposing of her," the theory reads.

“Kate is so overjoyed to see how grand and luxurious Cameron’s house is because she knows she and Jude have hit the jackpot.

"Meanwhile, Jude carefully sets up an ‘accidental’ meeting and manipulates Cameron to develop a relationship and get his claws into her."

The alleged behind-the-scenes plot goes one step further, arguing that grieving father Graham had, in fact, already killed his first wife with the hope of landing her elaborate house.

Similarly, the theory accuses Iris of planning to seduce Arthur - the elderly screenwriter that she befriends whilst residing at Amanda's Beverley Hills palace, - in the hope that she can bag HIS impressive fortune, before Jack Black gets in the way, of course.

I don't think I'll ever be able to watch this movie in the same way again!
