I'm A Celeb viewers shocked at Reverend Coles' 'scissoring' comments during conversation about being gay

The radio star, clergyman and best-selling writer made a surprising admission about his love life during last night's episode (25 Nov)

Last night saw I'm A Celeb stars Reverend Richard Coles and GK Barry lifting the lid on their respective sex lives.

One moment of the conversation has since gone viral online, however, after viewers couldn't believe that the former priest had no idea about a certain practice often carried out by lesbian lovers, despite being gay himself.

Catching up during some downtime, TikTok star Barry, 25 - who is currently dating footballer Ella Rutherford - reflected on going to church camp in her younger years, where she was told about the importance of abstinence.

"I went to this camp Jesus-y camp thing, and there was just like weird men sort-of going, 'You need to not have sex until you're married'," she explained. "And even at 13, I thought, 'Well, that's not going to happen'."

"That's a big ask," Coles then chimed in.

Barry then jestingly added: "I see my future, and it involves... scissoring now. So, I thought, 'Well, no'."

It was then that Coles asked a question straight up that left viewers absolutely staggered.

"What's 'scissoring'?" he asked, to which Barry replied: "It's a lesbian thing."

"Right, do I need to know?" the clergymen then joked.

"I think you'd be alright not knowing," Barry teased. "I guess it wouldn't affect..."

"We'll leave that one shrouded in mystery, alright?" Coles went on to laugh. "Sizzling sisters for the sisterhood!"

And as we say, the moment has since been hotly-debated online, with many fans of the ITV reality series unable to comprehend that Coles' had never heard of it despite being a member of the LGBTQ+ community himself.

Taking to social media, one viewer claimed: "Do not believe for one second that #Richard - a gay man, FFS, does not know what scissoring is"

Another joked: "grace and richard talking about scissoring is peak #imaceleb content i need more gay moments like that"

"GK and Richard talking about scissoring is the highlight of tonight’s episode," a third noted.

Another admitted: "Rev Richard asking GK Barry what scissoring is on national tv was not what I was expecting in 2024 not gonna lie"

"GK Barry talking to Richard about scissoring was not something I ever thought I’d see" a fifth confessed.

Another jibed: "Grace telling Richard a REVEREND how she knew at 13 not having sex until she was married wasn’t gonna happen and now she’s scissoring and he’ll be alright not knowing what that is? She’s the funniest motherf****r in there you can’t change my mind".

Coles - a former Church of England priest - lost his husband, Reverend David Coles back in 2019 after he died of alcohol-induced liver failure, aged just 43.

He has been with his current partner - actor Richard Cant - since 2023, however, having met on a dating app.

Speaking about his love life on last night's show, he was asked by Barry whether his sexuality ever conflicted with his religious beliefs.

"No, not at all," Coles confirmed, however.

"I’ve never given it a moment’s twinge of anxiety over whether God thought it was alright or not. Whether other people thought it was alright or not, well I’m happy to have that argument.

"Also, I was not the first. Sometimes I look at documents from the early church, or the church of the middle ages and I just think – so gay."
