Jude Law reveals why he won’t watch The Holiday with his kids at Christmas

Jude Law reveals why he won’t watch The Holiday with his kids at Christmas

The British actor appeared alongside Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black in the 2006 festive flick

You'd think that, having appeared in one of the most successful seasonal films of all time, sitting down and watching The Holiday would form part of actor Jude Law's annual Christmas traditions.

In a shocking admission made to Tyla, however, the British acting hunk has revealed that he often 'forgets' he even featured in the festive flick and often has to be reminded.

If you're more into Die Hard than Christmas rom-coms - or simply haven't had a chance to sink your teeth into the transatlantic blockbuster yet this year - The Holiday tells the intertwining tale of four single people preparing for December to roll around.

Cameron Diaz takes on the role of emotionally unavailable Los Angeles film producer Amanda, who - after uncovering her boyfriend's infidelity - flees to the UK, where she swaps houses with an unlucky-in-love Cotswolds singleton named Iris, played by Kate Winslet.

While attempting to acclimatise to the hustle and bustle of life across the pond, Iris meets a friendly face named Miles (Jack Black) who is equally as tragic in love as she.

Law, meanwhile, plays Iris' bumbling brother Graham who, having forgotten about the exchange, rocks up to Amanda's new holiday home after a few too many drinks in the local pub, and the two strike up a cosy flirtationship.

While The Holiday may not have won any Oscars, it's still considered one of the highest-grossing festive hits of all time, and is watched by millions of families across the globe each year.

One family that isn't such a huge fan of the 2006 hit, however, are the Laws.

Catching up with the father-of-seven, 51 - ahead of the release of his gripping new true crime movie The Order - Tyla asked whether or not The Holiday still plays a part in his own traditions, and tragically, our hopes were immediately dashed.

"Only that everybody comes up to me and tells me how much they love The Holiday," he laughs. "But no, no it doesn’t, really."

Law went on to tell us: "I’m always very touched and surprised, and somehow, I forget every year that it’s coming up, and then I’m reminded at exactly this time of year when people express their love for it.

"It’s a very special thing to have in my work."

And before you start thinking he may have been playing up his disassociation with the film, he also told SiriusXM listeners that none of his children have actually seen the Christmassy banger.

"It’s not my family Christmas movie," he previously claimed. "See Dad and Cameron [Diaz]? I’m not sure."

Law's latest movie project is worlds away from his role as nervous heartthrob Graham, with The Order seeing him play a veteran FBI agent named Terry Husk.

In this dramatic true crime recreation, his character is thrown headfirst into a domestic terrorist plot contrived by members of a White Supremacist group known as The Order, who plan to overthrow the federal government.

Despite his character being an amalgamation of several real life cops that worked on the case, Law told Tyla that the pressure that comes with portraying real life events made the movie 'different to anything else' he'd ever done.

"The procedural steps it took for the FBI to catch this group – as well as the actions of the group themselves – and the general authenticity of the time, are always [things] that should be in your mind when you’re telling a true story," he said.

And revealing his initial attraction to The Order - of which he's a producer as well as the lead actor - he went on to explain: "It was the script that really got me [as a producer]. It was a cold read that hooked me with its potential.

"What [writer] Zac Baylin had done so brilliantly, I felt, was tell a true crime story whilst weaving in this historical account of these robberies and the rise of this group.

"He folded it very neatly into a genre piece. It just felt like, gosh, we had this story that felt like both an account of the past and a relevance in the present politically and socially, that also had the potential to be a gripping thriller."
