MAFS UK viewers left feeling 'uncomfortable' after behaviour of bride’s mum during home stays

Throughout the Channel 4 series, Lacey's mother has become a rather controversial character

One of this year's Married At First Sight stars has found themselves in hot water this week with several members of the audience.

And unusually, it isn't a bride or a groom.

Ever since Channel 4 stars Lacey and Nathan were paired up by the series' resident match-makers last month, the pair have enjoyed a rather smooth-sailing road to romance - compared to other MAFS UK couples, that is.

They expressed their attraction to one another on day one, and went on to form a strong bond on their loved-up honeymoon.

And in recent weeks - as the contestants' relationships with one another grow more and more serious, the pair have pleasantly surprised viewers by sticking it out.

However, throughout the duration of the series so far, there seems to have been one thing that viewers are unsure about - and that's Lacey's mum, Maxine.

After the pair moved in together, Maxine made them chicken fajitas - unaware that Nathan is a vegetarian - and she proceeded to burst into floods of tears when he jibed about her cooking - which left viewers in complete shock.

Following 'fajita-gate', Maxine, Lacey and Nathan all issued statements about the incident - with Lacey taking to Instagram to say that the show was 'edited for entertainment'.

But this week, her sporadic moods have once again caught the notice of viewers, after the pair visited Lacey's home to help with a spot of DIY, Maxine seemingly took the opportunity to 'flirt' with her son-in-law.

So much so, that Lacey was forced to issue a warning to her mother to 'stop flirting with my man'.

"If only he was 20 years older," Maxine later revealed in a shock confessional. "I'd snap him up." And it wasn't just Lacey that found the interaction uncomfortable.

Taking to the discussion forum Reddit today (1 Nov), one viewer wondered whether it was only them that felt on edge around Maxine when watching recent episodes.

"I know there are already a lot of posts on her but I just needed somewhere to get this out," they wrote. "Imagine if a male did this. Imagine one of the men’s dads acting like that towards one of the wives honestly.

"The uproar, the complaints, the backlash. Her mums behaviour has genuinely made me so uncomfortable and pretty speechless. Like…. What….. poor Nathan".

And by the sounds of things, they're not alone in their observations.

"When the mother started grabbing and tickling Nathan...and saying if he was 20 years older she'd have him?!" another noted, adding that her daughters 'just stood there grinning like idiots as if it's normal'.

Meanwhile, a third called it 'deeply uncomfortable viewing'.

Married at First Sight UK airs every Monday to Thursday at 9.00pm on E4.
