People shocked after realising who Miss Trunchbull actress actually is

Fans couldn't believe the 'underrated' actress has starred in so many films

Fans can't believe who played Miss Trunchbull in Matilda as all her other famous roles have come to light.

Some actors are typecast to play very similar roles for every film they star in - take Hugh Grant in rom-coms for example.

But the versatility of one actress has completely shocked people, after they've found out who starred as the nail-bitingly terrifying Miss Trunchbull in Matilda.

The family comedy was released in 1996, and the actress has admitted that it was one of her favourite characters she portrayed throughout her career.

Actress Pam Ferris was the genius behind the infamous role that had children quaking from an early age.

In a 2012 interview with the Guardian, she confessed: "Miss Trunchbull [in the film Matilda] was one of my favourite characters.

"The bully who had fear, who wasn't as strong as you'd think.

"I think everyone can relate to that, and there were definitely similarities between her and me."

In an interview with the Radio Times, she confessed that she took inspiration from her 'gardener' to get into the brutal character.

Ferris said: "My gardener is a whole different board game – she's now 80 and still working trimming hedges and she's the most incredible bully to her clients and we love her.

"But she has that sound in her voice – you know, that kind of hard sound."

She also had her own theories about why the character was so angry.

"My theory is that she was on steroids," she added.

"This is not mentioned in the book or the screenplay, but I think if you're that obsessed about your own physique you probably would get into steroids."
