One mum has issued an urgent warning to anyone buying the original Wicked novel as it might not be what you think it is.
Now, the musical first hit broadway in 2003 and, over a decade later, a film adaptation was made.
However, what some newbies to the fandom don't know is that Wicked is actually based on the book of the same title, written by Gregory Maguire and published in 1995, which contains some pretty 'adult' material.
One woman, who goes by 'TikTok's Mary Poppins' with the handle @enchantednanny online, took to TikTok to share her 'serious warning' for fellow parents.

She began: "This is a serious warning for parents of children who have loved the movie Wicked, do not buy them the book."
The mum continued to explain that the book 'came out years before the musical was even made', adding that it was 'not a children's book' given the content inside.
"There are explicit scenes. They are heavily detailed and very adult themes that run through them," she warned.

The TikToker then hit out at the choice to put the new cover of the 2024 movie onto the old book, noting: "Which obviously, as a parent who's never read that book, would make you think, 'Oh, this is just going to be a book of the film'.
"It's not, it's really adult."
The mum carried on: "I would not want my children reading it. They would be traumatised, because they would just not understand what was going on.
"And my children are big readers, and the idea of someone buying them that book and them just reading it up in their room on Boxing Day just... oh my goodness."

She finished up: "So just a warning [...] it's rude. It's not the same as the film. It's very intense and very grown up.
"And for whatever reason, the creators have decided that it's absolutely fine to put the cover of something that's completely different onto the old book - so you have been warned!"
Other people who read the book rushed in to agree with the woman's sentiments with one TikTok user writing: "I’ve been reading it and even I’m shocked."

"If American Horror Story / 50 Shades smashed into Oz then you would have Wicked," chirped a second.
Another piped up: "I read it years ago and was like HOW did the musical come from this?"
And a final TikTok user admitted: "Ngl I now wanna buy it for myself to read."
