A former Mormon has shared was the term 'sweet spirit' means - and the slang isn't as complimentary as it sounds.

Similar to a lot of religions, Mormons are forbidden from having sex until after marriage.

And even masturbation is considered a big no-no.

This is because they believe family is integral to the plan of God, which would be unacceptable to interfere with.

Because of this, young Mormons have had to get creative with how they can interact with each other, before deciding to commit for life.

A unique set of slang words have been developed in the community, in order to communicate what they want/mean.

NCMO

'NMCO' is one of these terms, which is an abbreviation for a 'non-committal make-out session'.

Alyssa Grenfell (@alyssadgrenfell), a former Mormon who creates videos on TikTok, sharing her insight, branded an 'NMCO' as the Mormon version of a booty call.

Obviously, with a lot less action.

Alyssa says it's 'very common' at Mormon university BYU.

Levi lovin'

Another of the slang phrases is 'Levi Lovin', which refers to dry humping, as opposed to having sex.

Alyssa said: "This is basically the motions of having sex while clothed.

"It's also sometimes called 'durfing'."

Sweet spirit

'Sweet spirit' sounds like a complimentary term that Mormons could use, but looking into the true meaning, you might want to think again.

Alyssa explained: "Sweet spirit is a very mean term for a girl who is not very pretty but has a kind heart.

"There's a song about this in a Mormon movie and the best-known line is 'She's only getting married if we bring back polygamy'."

Ouch!

People in the comments of the clip were quick to share their thoughts on the brutal phrase.

One said: "That is a scorched earth level burn geeeez."

Another added: "Omg I'm a convert and my ex mother-in-law always referred to me as a sweet spirit!

"I'm gagged."

A third branded the term 'mean and horrible'.

The obsession with Mormon phrases and culture has grown due to the Hulu series which dropped last week called The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

It's a US reality show which follows the lives of group of eight Utah-based TikTok influencers, as they navigate life as a Mormon wife... and what that really entails.
