According to official reports, the couple were in the jacuzzi just after 8.30pm on Tuesday (11 June) at Sonoran Sea Resort.

However eyewitnesses then noticed the couple weren't moving in the jacuzzi, before they later called the emergency services and started CPR according to the General Prosecutor's Office who spoke to The Daily Mail.

One witness at the scene said she was shocked by the water when she tried to enter the tub to help the couple.

A video shared on social media and local media is said to have captured the incident according to CBS reports.

In the clip, crowds of people have gathered around the jacuzzi while others can be heard screaming for 'help' and someone is lay on the ground receiving CPR.

As reported by The Daily Mail, a friend of Lizette's posted on Facebook after the incident as she wrote: "As I woke up this morning we received a message from our best friend’s mom. A message you don’t want to wake up to.

"As many of you have seen on social media and the news, a tragic event happened. I will not go into detail here.

"It would be greatly appreciated if you all could donate to help get Jorge home and help with medical expenses.

"Lizzette has a way to go in recovery and we are all here to help her through."

A GoFundMe has now been set up to help with expenses, which reads: "Our best friends have experienced a horrible accident.

"Jorge had a heart of gold and was always there for family and friends.

"The love they shared was one for ages. We are asking for your help to bring him home & help with medical expenses for her."

A Facebook announcement on the General Prosecutor's Office of Justice of the State of Sonora states that an investigation was currently looking into the cause of the 'electric discharge'. They explained they would be releasing the details at a later date.
