A video of Anna Wintour being asked for ID before going to an off-Broadway show has gone viral and it's kind of amazing.
The Vogue editor-in-chief was at Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City this week to see a showing of Alison Leiby’s one-woman show Oh God, A Show About Abortion when the drama unfolded.
After successfully presenting proof of a covid vaccination, the fashion icon was asked to show some identification - an apparently shocking ask. Check it out here:
Viewers have massively mixed reactions to the video, obtained by Page Six reporter Nicki Gostin.

While many agreed that the Devil Wears Prada muse should have been ID'd just like anyone else, others couldn't believe how Wintour's was treated.
Some people were thrilled to see a celebrity of Wintour's stature being 'humbled' on camera.
"YESSS HUMBLE CELEBRITIES" one commented.
"Just bc someone famous doesn’t mean we all know them and they can be ID. They're human too and should be treated a such" added a second.

"Why wouldn’t she show ID? She’s human just like everyone else . She isn’t special," a third pointed out.
And a third commented: "Honestly this is understandable. Most people don’t know who Anna is unless you’re into fashion."
Meanwhile, some pointed out that - with her famous blonde bob and sunglasses look - it would be easy to impersonate someone like Wintour, so asking for identification wouldn't exactly be unusual.

"I feel like people in the comments are forgetting about impersonators, imagine if they let in someone pretending to be her, bc her look hides her face" suggested one user.
"I mean it could be an impersonator" a second concurred.
"Okay but anyone male or female could throw on a blonde bob and big glasses, tell me they're Anna Wintour, and I'd be like 'tru'" joked a third.
Other horrified viewers took to the comment section to discuss the shocking social faux-pas.

"If you’re someone like Anna Wintour then it’s just disrespectful to get asked for ID" one person argued.
"I understand any celebrity but she is a literal icon to the fashion industry" added a second.
Despite their differences, most viewers did come together in the hope that the staff member who ID'd Wintour got to keep her job.

"The person asking for the ID is literally an icon" read one comment.
"She did her job lol I hope she doesn’t get fired" a second pointed out.
