Katy Perry fans were left stunned after discovering that Katy Perry is not in fact the singer's real name.
Now, it's nothing new that celebrities have stage monikers that can sometimes be miles from their actual birth name, and the 40-year-old 'Fireworks' singer is of no exception.
During last year's MTV VMAs, Perry - who had just performed a 10-minute medley of her classics - was handed the prestigious MTV Video Vanguard Award and was lucky enough to be given the gong by her partner, Orlando Bloom, who shared an emotional speech about their relationship beforehand.
The 48-year-old Lord of the Rings star began: "You fell in love with her as Katy Perry. I fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson.

"You know her as a global superstar who brings love, light, and her unique sense of humour to every song she writes and music video she creates.
"I know her as a mother, as a partner who brings that same love and joy to our family."
He then ended the heartfelt speech telling Katy: "Congratulations on this honour, baby."
Needless to say, fans online went wild with many rushing to social media to share their shock after learning that her name isn’t actually Katy Perry.

One Twitter user said: "KATY PERRY ISN'T HER REAL NAME WHAT."
A second chimed in: "KATY PERRYS REAL NAME ISNT F*CKING KATY PERRY?!?!"
"So I’m today years old when I learned that Katy Perry’s real name is not Katy Perry… is Taylor the only artist who goes by her real name," echoed a third.

Anyway, after the shock wore off and people realised that her name was different, the mum-of-one, who welcomed her and Bloom's daughter Daisy Dove back in 2020, accepted the award in a way that only she could pull off.

She joked to the crowd: "Thank you, I did that all on my first day of my period, can you believe it?
"Thank you so much to MTV for believing in my weirdness from day one. There are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist. There are no decades-long accidents."

After thanking everyone in her production and team, she went on to shoutout her fans and her family.
She said: "My Katy Cats, you stood by me for a lifetime and the LGBTQ community who I recognise I would not be here without.
"You showed me that you can be both kind and snatched. Thank you to Orlando for keeping me grounded, celebrated and doing the dishes. And lastly, for my Daisy, the only flower I'll ever need."
