Sam Asghari name drops Travis Kelce as he makes sad admission about Britney Spears relationship

Sam appeared on Kate Hudson's 'Sibling Revelry' podcast earlier this week, where he reflected on his high-profile marriage to the singer

Britney Spears' ex-husband Sam Asghari is hitting headlines all over the world this week following his appearance on Kate Hudson's popular Sibling Revelry podcast.

As well as reflecting on his former marriage to the 'Baby, One More Time' singer, however, Sam has also taken the opportunity to name drop NFL star Travis Kelce - who himself is in a high-profile relationship with fellow musician Taylor Swift.

For those unfamiliar with 30-year-old Iranian-born socialite Sam, the model and fitness instructor shot to fame back in 2016, when he and Britney started dating publicly.

The couple had met on the the set of the mother-of-two's music video for 'Slumber Party', and went on to wed in a plush LA ceremony in 2022.

Sadly, however, in August 2023, after just 14 months of marital bliss, the duo were reported to have separated.

And in December of last year - on Britney's 43rd birthday - their divorce was finalised, with Sam later going Insta-official with new girlfriend Brooke Irvine.

As we say, however, public interest in Sam's personal antics has surged once again recently - possibly since he was announced in the line-up for the 2025 series of The Traitors (US) - and as such, he was invited to appear on the latest episode of actress Kate Hudson's podcast.

Speaking to the Hollywood icon and her brother Oliver on Monday (27 Jan), was asked about his relationship with Britney, after which he reflected on the highs and lows of going through both a marriage and a divorce in the eye of the public.

"Divorce, separation, break-ups suck for anybody," he began. "Of course it’s going to suck but I had the mindset of ‘I will never be sad that it’s over, I’m always going to be grateful and happy that it ever even happened'."

Discussing the subject of public romances in general, Sam went on to compare his relationship to that currently being enjoyed by musician Taylor Swift and sportsman Travis Kelce - who've reportedly been romantically involved since September 2023.

"I never looked at [our relationship] as a 'big time thing'," he claimed.

"There’s the spotlight and you have the public relationship and people start paying attention even if you’re Travis Kelce and you’re in the NFL and the best in the league, they still associate you with pop culture."

Sam went on to jibe: "Better yet to be associated with an icon, someone labelled the Princess of Pop. But that didn’t mess with my mind too much."

He later added: "I’ve always looked at life as a blessing. I didn’t look at it as this big thing for my career because my career has always been different to my personal life, even though that might be a ridiculous thing to say.

"Things happened the way they happened because of my career – I was on an acting job, I was already acting and I met a coworker that happened to be the Princess of Pop and we sort of clicked."

Elsewhere in the interview, Sam confessed that the 'weirdest' aspect of his relationship - apart from constantly being under the watchful eye of his wife's fans - was the controversial conservatorship that Britney was previously placed under.

He told the Hudson siblings that 'everything was going well' in their early days together, until he learned of the extremity of the legal restrictions.

"I thought, 'I’m in America, what do you mean someone doesn’t have basic human rights and that someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?'

"And that was by far the weirdest thing to deal with. It was a very difficult time."

Sam continued: "It blurred into our relationship for almost seven years, but it was so much that we’ve gone through as a couple and we’ve learned so much and it was a beautiful experience."

Following a public breakdown in the early noughties, a judge deemed in 2008 that Britney was no longer in a fit state to make decisions surrounding her own wellbeing - including her personal life and career - and she was placed under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie.

The #FreeBritney campaigned formed by the public in the years that followed ultimately resulted in another judge reviewing her case, and in 2021 the conservatorship was ended.

Discussing the prior legal arrangement, Sam described it as 'such a ridiculous thing in this country to have to deal with'.
