Ever since news hit the headlines earlier this week that Jennifer Lopez was divorcing husband Ben Affleck after their second attempt at love, some fans have been left wondering what went wrong the first time.
The now-former couple - lovingly nicknamed 'Bennifer' by their adoring followers - first became romantically involved in the early noughties.

They met on the set of Gigli back in 2001, and when J. Lo, now 55, was married to her then-husband Cris Judd, from whom she divorced in June 2002.
In the years that followed, Ben, now 51, and Jen went on to make their relationship official.
They even got engaged and set a date for their wedding in June of 2004.
Tragically, however, the duo were unable to make their relationship work in the long-term, and they parted ways that same year.

While the singer went on to marry three other times - including life-long friend Marc Anthony, with whom she welcomed twins - Gone Girl actor Ben wed Jennifer Garner, with the couple welcoming three children of their own.
Now, in the wake of their high-profile divorce, some followers of the couple seemingly still have questions regarding what could have possibly seen the pair separated for 20 years.
Well, if you watched J. Lo's recently released Amazon Prime documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, you'll see the duo lifting the lid on their original split.

"Ben and I, we broke up three days before our wedding," Jennifer initially recalls.
"We had a big wedding planned…14 ushers and bridesmaids, and three days before we just crumbled under the pressure."
It is then that Ben opens up on his side of the story, giving a similarity honest answer for why they first parted ways, claiming it was due to mass media attention.
"When Jen and I broke up before, the catalyst for that was the massive amount of scrutiny around our private life," he insisted.

And to be fair to the movie star, his answer wasn't too dissimilar to the statement the pair released all the way back in 2004 when announcing their first break-up.
"Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date," they jointly said at the time.
"When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate 'decoy brides' at three different locations, we realised that something was awry."

When the couple reunited in 2022, it finally looked like we were going to see 'Bennifer' achieve their happy ending.
Earlier this week, however, news broke that Jennifer had filed for divorce after just two years of marriage.
The duo are yet to comment publicly on their decision.
