Netflix viewers are dubbing the spin-off an 'absolute masterpiece'

There's nothing worse than getting emotionally attached to a series only to find out you've got to wait a whole other month to finish the season off.

Well, that's unfortunately what many Bridgerton fans have had to contend with this past month ever since the first part of the third season finally dropped on Netflix a few weeks back (16 May).

And now, fans of the 'ton are 'bawling' at what they're hailing a 'masterpiece' series watching after binging the Regency-era period drama.

The spin-off series in question, which first hit our screens just last year, is loosely based on the 18th-century rise of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz serving as an interesting insight into the former monarch’s relationship with her husband, King George.

The six-episode mini-series runs two concurrent plot lines: one in the present of Bridgerton and one in the past.

The present sees Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) dealing with the death of the royal heir Princess Charlotte; while the other documents the meeting and marriage of young Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and King George (Corey Mylchreest).

Meanwhile, the plot also works to chronicle fan-favourite character Lady Danbury’s fight to power (Arsema Thomas) and also features glimpses at the young Bridgerton matriarch, Violet (Connie Jenkins-Greig).

If you hadn't yet figured it out, the series is, of course, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

Fans are clearly loving it with one particularly enthusiastic one taking to Reddit to share their overwhelming praise.

They titled the post: "Please tell me why it took me over a year to finally watch Queen Charlotte..."

"I am BAWLING!" the Reddit user continued. "I gave it a few minutes every time I sat down to watch the first episode and for some reason, couldn't get into it and would give up."

They went on: "I decided yesterday, after finding I had an unexpected extra day off work, that I had a Bridgerton itch that needed scratching and to give QC a go.

Oh my.

"What an absolute masterpiece. The casting, the writing, the acting - perfection.

I am so angry at myself for waiting so long to see it but I realise it was worth the wait. Heartbreakingly wonderful."

"I just needed to get that off my chest," they finished up.

We're glad you did as that's this weekend's viewing material sorted!
