Love Island viewers think they finally understand one memorable moment from this summer's season following Maya Jama and Stormzy's shock split announcement.
The pair revealed they had parted ways earlier today, after explaining they had been trying for the last year to give their relationship another go.
In a statement shared on Instagram by both Maya and Stormzy, they said: "Hey guys, we've been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we'd be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that's needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.

"We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart. We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we've spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits.
"We were 21 and 20 when we first met-both at the beginning of our careers-and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately, so this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and unlearning.
"We tried, and it didn't work, and that's okay."

The statement continued: "We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we've had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The Brits or something, don't cause a fuss, we are dawgs!)
"Announcing this feels so dramatic, but we're doing it so that it kind of takes away the drama and avoids speculation and rumours."
As fans came to terms with the news, Love Island viewers are remembering one moment from a couple of weeks ago, in which Maya could be seen crying during the show.
ICYMI, the emotional moment happened when the girls returned to the main villa after being away in Casa Amor.

One couple who had remained totally loyal - and missed each other like crazy - was Ciaran and Nicole.
And when Nicole returned to the villa alone - having chosen to remain coupled up with Ciaran - it was a pretty emotional moment.
While Nicole was crying, Maya too could be seen in tears, too, telling Nicole: "You're going to set me off... you've set me right off, sorry."
At the time, people were surprised Maya had become so emotional over the moment, with one person writing on X: "I cannot believe the Maya crying hype was over this."

While another said: "All that crying from maya for it to be at Nicole."
And a third even pointed out that Stormzy was playing in the background: "Ciaran and Nicole saying how much they missed each other. Maya is crying and stormzy is playing in the background."
However, some fans think it now all makes sense, after they wondered whether Maya could have been going through her break up at the time.

One said: "Maya Jama crying at the love island recoupling makes so much sense now. She’s going through a break up and seeing Ayo do Mimi the way he did triggered Maya’s heart break."
And another tweeted: "This announcement explains why maya was crying at the casa recoupling."
Thanking fans for all their support, Maya and Stormzy finished off their statement by adding: "Love you guys and thank you for all the love you’ve showered us with, it’s been beautiful! Mike & MJ x."
