They also showed a 'poignant' clip from Myers' latest series

Roman Kemp and Alex Jones were close to tears as they paid an emotional tribute to Dave Myers on The One Show last night, following the sad news that he passed away earlier this week.

The Hairy Bikers legend first told fans about his cancer diagnosis back in May 2022, opening up about his treatment.

He decided not to disclose the type of cancer he had, in a bid to stop the public drawing any conclusions about his prognosis.

Myers’ friend and co-star Si King confirmed that the 66-year-old passed away ‘peacefully’ at home on 28 February, surrounded by his loved ones.

“All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing,” he said in a heartfelt statement, adding: “Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment.

"My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world.”

After the news of his death broke yesterday morning, The One Show took the opportunity to pay tribute to the late star.

Hosts Roman Kemp and Alex Jones played a clip from a recent episode of The Hairy Bikers Go West, in which the duo shared a ‘poignant’ chat.

"One thing I have to say is that one has to live for today,” Myers told his friend as they were fishing from a boat.

“Don't live for tomorrow, you don't know what's around the corner. You could get hit by a double-decker bus.

"Live for today and don't worry so much."

Si then said: "There's nothing bigger than the perspective you have to have when you've been through the processes that you have."

Myers added: "It's a lot to get your head around. But you know, talking about light at the end of the tunnel, being here with you - it's not just light, it's a bl**dy searchlight."

Kemp and Jones, who looked clearly emotional, also read out fan tributes from viewers.

One person called Liz said she and her husband had met Myers and King ‘numerous times’.

“Dave was always so lovely and happy to talk to us,” she said.

“He didn't have any airs and graces, just a genuine, lovely guy.”

Another anecdote from a viewer named Martin added: “I had the pleasure of meeting Dave.

“He sat in front of me at a Meatloaf gig, and he was so lovely when I asked for a photo, it made the concert extra special.”
