Shoppers have been left 'insulted' as some Sainsbury's supermarkets across the UK have introduced a rule where you must scan you receipt to leave.
The new measure means that if you were to purchase something from these select Sainsbury's stores, then you will need to provide proof of purchase.
This is done by using the receipt scanners that are located at the supermarket's self-checkouts.

Many Sainsbury's shoppers have taken to social media to announce their outrage at the new rule, with many who do not usually print receipts equally unimpressed.
Other shoppers questioned Sainsbury's for not trusting them, as the policy is obviously in place to reduce people robbing items.
But despite the supermarket giant seemingly wanting to reduce crime with the measure, people have taken to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction.

One person said: "The system to scan receipt barcodes when leaving the self checkout area is ridiculous.
"No ones receipts worked and there was a queue of about 6 people at lunch time waiting to try and scan theirs, get rid!"
A second added: "Essentially they are holding [people] hostage against their will as they refuse to let people leave without scanning a receipt that not everyone chooses to get in the first place. What will they do? Hold someone hostage and rifle through bags before releasing you?"
Another shopper described it as an 'appalling way to treat customers', with a long-time Sainsbury's shopper saying they would no longer shop at the supermarket because of the measure.

A fellow shopper said: "I'd be buggered. I've never once hit the "receipt" button on the self-service till."
And another couldn't believe it: "Your local Sainsbury's self service tills actually asks you if you want a receipt?!"
Sainsbury's told Tyla that the receipt scanning "is not a new security measure and features in a small number of our stores at the self-service checkout areas."

They added that the receipt to scan out will only be needed if customers are using the self-checkouts, so if you were to go to a regular checkout, it would not be required.
Sainsbury's is actually not the first retail giant to trial receipt scanning to exit, with Primark having it in some select stores since September.
Ikea and Costco have also had similar measures, but likes Sainsbury's, were met with customer frustration.
It seems like Tesco might also be trailing it out with Reddit user claiming they had to scan their receipt to leave one of the supermarket's Express stores.
