The controversy over Gemma and Davide's kiss on Love Island appears to have spread far beyond Twitter as the show received multiple Ofcom complaints after the episode aired.
At 19 and 27, respectively, Gemma and Davide haven't been doing anything wrong by showing their interest in one another after arriving at the Island last week, but the eight-year age difference between them left many viewers feeling uncomfortable.
"Got the ofcom website up in case they make us watch gemma n davide kiss [sic]," one viewer wrote, while another commented: "I BETTER NOT SEE GEMMA AND DAVIDE KISSING TONIGHT OR IM CALLING THE POLICE."
A third wrote: "nahhh the gemma-davide age gap… who even let her on this show?"

The pair did ended up kissing during the show on 7 June and after the episode aired, Ofcom received a total of 167 complaints relating to the programme.
It's unclear exactly how many related specifically to Gemma and Davide, but another episode aired on 12 June resulted in a further 92 comments, the majority of which related to the age of a contestant, according to Ofcom.
Gemma, who is the daughter of football legend Michael Owen, discussed the matter of her age difference with Davide after they first began to grow close in the villa, when Davide asked what she felt about the fact he's 'much older than' her.
"It's not an issue for me at all," Gemma said, adding: "I feel like if it was I wouldn't have wanted to get to know you in the first place."

"And, as I've said before, I've been speaking to guys and seeing guys that...," she continued, before Davide interrupted: "Are much older than you?"
Gemma responded: "It's not something that I'm not used to or you're the only one or anything like that. It's very normal for me, so for me, it's not an issue but I feel like for you, is it an issue?"
Davide agreed, assuring her it wasn't an issue, however despite having shared a kiss with Gemma he has since moved on to Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, while Gemma coupled up with Luca Bish.

Gemma caused further drama during last night's episode of Love Island, when she accidentally called Luca by her ex-boyfriend's name, Jacques O'Neill, after he made a surprise appearance in the villa. The 19-year-old ended up claiming Luca had 'overreacted' to her comment, though the interaction received mixed reactions online.
