Gilmore Girls fans disappointed after realising what ‘reunion’ really is

Gilmore Girls fans disappointed after realising what ‘reunion’ really is

Three stars of the beloved drama series teased a comeback

Fans of the ultimate comfort show, Gilmore Girls, couldn't hold in their excitement when rumours of a reunion began to circulate.

The drama, which ran for seven seasons between 2003-2007, stunned fans when it came back via Netflix for a spin off, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016.

Viewers were introduced to the caffeine-fuelled world of Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel).

Graham, along with her co-stars Scott Patterson and Sean Gunn, teased a possible comeback on social media.

Patterson, who played Luke Danes, Lorelai's love interest, shared a photo of a mug with 'Luke's Coffee' and wrote: "Back at #LukesDiner for something really special,” before advising his followers to “tune in 12/3.”

Gunn, who played the eccentric character of Kirk Gleason, posted a photo of the iconic Stars Hollow gazebo, which featured heavily in the show and wrote: “Kirk’s 63rd job? Find out on 12/3.”

The posts led fans to believe we may be treated to more Gilmore Girls content - maybe even a new season, or a film perhaps?

But when Graham posted, it was revealed that sometimes, things just are too good to be true.

On Instagram, Graham wrote: "I've got something brewing... tune in 12/3," followed by the hashtag of 'WalmartPartner', signalling that the post was a paid advert.

Fans were disappointed by the likelihood that some of the cast had simply teamed up with the supermarket chain to promote a product.

Some, however, chose to hold onto hope - however slim.

One person wrote on X: "the gilmore girls cast posting about gilmore girls in the year 2024…im so up."

Another said: “OH MY GOSH!! IS THERE GONNA BE MORE GILMORE GIRLS?!?!?! WHAT IS HAPPENING????!!!!!”

A third added: “Omg stoppp gonna cry 😭 yeasss please let it be back !!!!!!!!”

Others were less optimistic, instead bemoaning the likely nature of the collaboration.

One wrote: "Ughhhhh I don’t want a f****ng Walmart commercial. I want to know what happens to Rory and Logan!!! And Luke and Lorelei!!!!!!!”

Another added: “It’s going to be like that Mean Girls commercial from last year but honestly that was so fetch I’d be willing to see what they do with [Gilmore Girls]."

In case you missed it, last year, Mean Girls' Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert reprised their iconic roles for a series of adverts promoting Walmart's Black Friday.

As for where exactly American audiences should be tuning into for the Gilmore Girls collaboration, Walmart responded on Instagram: "Coming to TV & social media near you!”

We're keeping our fingers crossed.
